5 Ways to Read More

bookswithemsIf you are a blogger or an active member of the book community then you might wonder how some people can get through 10 books or more a month. This to me is just impossible, but there are some ways to add reading to your daily routine an get through more books.

Set time for reading

Many people like to read before bed or on their lunch break. This is their set time for reading and it is how many get through books quicker. Whether it is before bed, on the bus into work or school, or even just an hour you dedicate to reading. It will become a part of your daily routine and will help you get through more books.

Don’t make it a chore

Basically turning the first point on its head. Don’t make reading a chore by making yourself read a book. If you don’t want to read then don’t. When you find a book you want to read then you might want to read it all day long. Never force yourself to read because it will just make you hate it more.

Take a book everywhere you go

Obviously not to the shop and back, but always carry a book in your bag. you never know when you might have to wait around for awhile or have a spare half and hour, maybe more. Why not spend that time reading a chapter or two instead of siting their twiddling your thumbs?

Read shorter novels

Some might call this cheating but who cares? A book is a book right. Whether it is in comic form, a novella or just a short story. As long as you are reading what does it matter? Pick up some shorter books from time to time. It will make you feel like you re reading more books, faster, and might even give you some more encouragement to read longer books.

Try an audiobook

Some people love them, some people hate them. I personally am not a massive fan but audiobook have helped me get through novels I was finding hard to read. You can read the book and listen to it at the same time. They are also great to use when cooking or cleaning instead of putting on music.

Even though you may feel pressured to read more books in a shorter amount of time – I know I am as a blogger – you should never rush through a book or make yourself read. Reading should always be fun and an enjoyable past time. Never a chore.

What do you do when trying to read more books? Do you feel pressure to read more books in a shorter amount of time?

  1. Thank you – this is such a great guide! I wrote a pretty similar one a while ago, and taking a book everywhere was one of the tips I thought of 🙂 Queues are always a great place to read!
