Geek Girl Special: Sunny Side Up by Holly Smale #4.5 in the Geek Girl series.
Genre: Young Adult
Goodreads summary: Harriet Manners knows many facts.
And she knows everything there is to know about Paris… except what to do when you’re the hottest new model at Fashion Week.
Can Harriet find her je ne sais quoi or will it be sacré bleu! on the runway?
If you have been reading my blog for awhile you will know that I am a big fan of the Geek Girl series even if I am now 20 years old, and once again Holly Smale has continued to deliver.
What I love most about the Geek Girl books is that Harriet grows with you and you grow with her. Not only do we get to see her progress in life, but also she never fails to get into werid and yet wonderful situations.
This is the latest in the special short stories to keep us tied over until the next big adventure for Harriet. This time we followed her to Paris Fashion Week which I think was a brillant idea for this series as it isn’t a one off photoshoot, but an actual full time adventure, so we get to see a lot more of her modeling side rather than her home life.
What I also really liked about this book was the inclusion of characters past and present. Smale never fails to sideline characters that are important in Harriet’s life.
Another thing I thought Smale did perfectly to add something special to this mini novel was to give us a snippet of Nick’s point of view from when he first met Harriet. Nick is an interesting characters but we have never had the chance to see his side of Harriet. This really added something for the books.
The reason I gave this book four and not five stars however was because I thought this would have been a great full novel! It could have carried on after the ending and we could have seen Harriet interact more with characters who made an appearance towards the end of the book. This was such a good idea for this series, I just wish we had been given more.
Have you read the Geek Girl books? Who is your favourite character and why? Mine is probably Harriets grandmother because she reminds me of my grandmother.
