Why you should listen to audio books

why you should listen to audio booksAudio books aren’t the first thing I think about when looking at easier ways to read a book. But they are becoming increasingly more popular in the book loving world. I thought I would share with you some reasons as to why you should listen to audio books.

Reading on the go

Unless you are really talented and can read whilst driving, walking to work, at the gym or doing the washing up, it can be really hard to find time to read. Audio books allow you to read whilst doing other day to day activities killing two birds with one stone.

Story time

Listening to an audio book is like having somebody else read a story to you. It takes you back to when you were a child and your parents would read you a bed time story. It also gives your eyes a rest. Nothing beats Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter to you before you go to bed.

Getting it right

How many times have you read dialogue in a book and only realised after you read it that it was meant to be said in a completely different way? Or you never really knew how to pronounce that really strange name or town? The narrators of audio books have spoken with the author so you know that the way they are pronouncing things is the right way.

Bringing the story to life

Although we put our own voices in our heads to characters, nothing beats the way hearing somebody use voices for different characters. It brings the story to life in a way that reading to yourself can’t always do.

Communal reading

The great thing about audio books is that you can listen to them with other people. Reading is mainly a singular activity but audio books allow you to share that experience with others.

If you want to try an audio book for free then have a look at Audible. Audible is Amazon’s audio book store. It has thousands of audio books for you to listen to and if you are new you can get a 1 month free trial with 1 free audio book of your choice!

Do you listen to audio books often? Why do you prefer audio books over physical books?
