Winter by Marissa Meyer (Lunar Chronicles #4)
A brilliant end to the series but I still want more!
Spoilers for previous three books!
Goodreads: Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.
Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.
Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?
The Lunar Chronicles are by far amazing books and this round-up of the series was perfect.
Although it took me over a week to read as it is compiled of over 800 pages it was well worth it.
What I love most about this series in general is how Meyer balances the friendships with the romance, the action with the sorrow and encompasses everything you want in a young adult fantasy novel whilst retelling some much loved fairy tales!
This book helped to answer a lot of questions which not many series finales can do. As much as I don’t like reading long books like this I do think that there was no way it could have been shorter. Some chapters may have felt like fillers but every event and conversation just added to the overall story.
Once we get to this novel we already know a lot about all of the characters but it still surprised me how much more I learnt about Cinder, Cress, Throne, Scarlet and Wolf in this book even though the main focus was meant to be on Winter.
The one downfall to this novel for me was that there was no epilogue to help you see where they all are now. Although we are given hints towards the end as to what is to come in the future I do feel that an epilogue would have been welcomed by many fans of this series.
Compared to previous books this final book has a lot more action in it which can be a turn off for some but as I have already mentioned this is balanced out so well with the romance and the adventure and the friendship.
My favourite characters by far are Cress and Throne as their story is one that I truly love. Like fairy tales all of these couples have a moral and a story we can learn by and this again was something that I enjoyed along with Meyer’s spin on traditional fairy tales.
We are going to be getting some novellas and another book in this series which is said to be about what happens after the events in Winter which I am highly anticipating.
