Mini reviews of all 4 selection novellas. The Queen, The Prince, The Guard and The Favourite.
The Queen (The Selection #0.4) by Kiera Cass
At first I didn’t think I would enjoy this novella because we rarely heard from Queen Amberly in the series but hearing how she became Queen and about her selection made me fall in love with her. It helped explain a lot about Queen Amberly but also the King, and we get to understand the reasons behind why they act the way they do with their son. You may not think this is a necessary novella for the series but it really is.
The Prince (The Selection #0.5) by Kiera Cass
I fell in love with Prince Maxon from the start and he definitely won me over. This novella looks into how he first met America and how she won him over. It was nice to see the other side of their love story as we only got to see how America felt and her speculations as to how Maxon might be feeling. But now we get to see what he truly thought of her from the start.
The Guard (The Selection #2.5) by Kiera Cass
I didn’t really like this novella as much as the others but I still gave it 4 stars just because I love the characters. Aspen was never my choice for America but it was still helpful to see what he was going through whilst a guard in the palace, and the little hints here and there which lead to events in the third and fourth book were dropped in this novella which I liked. However I didn’t think that this added much to the story as we know how much Aspen loves America and therefore this only just reinforced that for me.
The Favourite (The Selection #2.6) by Kiera Cass
This novella was by far the one that was most needed for this series. Marlee’s story left me with so many questions as to what happened to get her into the situation she was in and what happened after. Hearing about Marlee and Carter’s romance and how it all came about was brilliant. Especially as we only found out about it abruptly in the original series, and then getting to see how they live their lives after the canning was even better. By far the best novella in this set.
All of these novellas can be purchased individually or as a set in Happily Ever After by Kiera Cass, along with some bonus scenes, an epilogue and a map.
Have you read the Selection series? What do you think so far? Are you exited for The Crown coming out in May?
